The Vision Behind
Culmen Coaching
As a coach, I wish to be like a guide along winding paths for those seeking transformation—of themselves, of their lives, to a greater or lesser extent.
The name Culmen Coaching emerged in conversation with my friend Henrik. Culmen (which is the Latin form of culmination) represents both the guidance I wish to provide and the transformation I hope to support the client in achieving.
Culmination is a concept in observational astronomy referring to the situation where a celestial body passes the meridian of a location, also known as the meridian passage. Historically, these passages have been used for timekeeping and navigation. Thus, culmination/culmen serves as a guiding point for direction.
Culmen, as transformation, is inspired by ancient hero myths. The myths often describe how the hero reaches a phase—the culmen—where they undergo a transformation and move forward with new insights or abilities. I found inspiration for this in a blog by coach Bengt Kallenberg (www.kallenbergcoach.se). His reasoning is based on literature professor Joseph Campbell, who, in his book The Hero with a Thousand Faces, describes the ”monomyth” as a recurring structure of the hero’s journey across times and cultures, which consists of seven stages. Campbell’s theory has been both embraced and criticized. Among those inspired by the monomyth is George Lucas, who has stated that the theory of the hero’s journey influenced the space epic Star Wars.
The green logo took shape as I followed a sketching process by the designer Tomas Nyqvist on the computer. We paused when this figure emerged; it looked like a crossroads between paths in the forest and at the same time a simple gearwheel shape. To me, the logo conveys a sense of walking in peace and quiet, of gaining insights that fit together and lead toward the desired change.
