About coaching

Coaching consists of a set of methods for listening and bringing out the client’s own knowledge about their situation. Together with the coach, the client uncovers what is preventing them from striving toward their goals in different situations. The purpose is for the client to find their own solutions based on their inner capacities and knowledge. The solutions are adapted to the client’s life.

Related roles that differ from that of a coach

  • The mentor helps beginners develop by introducing them to a specific arena or skill set. The mentor leads the way and shows the path based on their own experiences in a specific field or role.
  • The advisor or consultant works with the transfer of information in relation to a specific task that needs to be solved. They possess different or deeper knowledge than the client within a defined area and can provide expert advice.
  • The psychotherapist has psychological competence and can diagnose, treat, and guide the person who needs therapy. The therapist offers a deeper exploration of often unconscious processes that require more time.

Coaching is solution- and goal-oriented, while, for example, psychotherapy is more focused on understanding the background to why someone feels or acts the way they do. If the client wishes to delve deeper and resolve underlying issues, it is more sustainable in the long run to turn to a professional therapist. In coaching, the client and coach seek a way past blockages and problems, not to suppress the problems but to help the client act as they wish despite inner obstacles.

Coaching is neither a quick fix nor a miracle cure

You will get the most out of my coaching if you are active during the coaching sessions as well as between them. By applying the insights you gain during the coaching sessions to your everyday life and reflecting on them, you can provide feedback to me when we meet again. This creates a coaching process where we can jointly adjust what may not be working and strengthen what seems to be your path.

I will lead you to reflect by asking open and powerful questions. Even though I occasionally summarize and provide an overarching perspective on how the individual aspects you bring up seem to connect, I will always ask you to take a stand. Together, I will help you understand what is at the core of your desired development and the most viable path for you. You are free to experiment and try out new ways of thinking.
